HELPING PEOPLE, HELP THEMSELVES!

Cultural Sensitization

We are all seeing signs of decadence in our cultural and moral values. Promiscuity, alcoholism, drug abuse, sexual violence, sex crimes, corruption, injustice and multitude of social ills are on the rise. The children who have very little knowledge of their own great cultural heritage get easily influenced by the foreign cultural influences as they are being bombarded and propagated through Television, films. Magazines, newspapers are permeating our day to day lives.

Cultural sensitization of the community is a major ancillary activity of the organisation. Special programs like poetry symposiums, classical music concerts, cultural competitions like debates and recitations etc. are regularly organized for children as well as adults. Every year in April ,we organize a Spicmacay concert wherein the internationally renowned vocalist/instrumental music artist performs for rural and slum children. These programs and workshops aim to inculcate respect for cultural values and also build up a “we feeling” in the community.

We have also set up a rural library that has about 11000 books and has the membership of 1200 children and adults. The library serves as a forum and meeting ground for all groups and a lot of special programs like extempore, quiz etc are organized through the library. We have also initiated a deposit station (reading room facility) at Narela relocated slums with the support of Delhi Public library.
